Peoples Church has the honor of helping to support four missionaries around the world representing each of our four denominations.
United MethodistDelbert and Sandy Groves are Methodist missionaries in Zambia in central Africa. Delbert supervises the production of PETS—Personal Energy Transportations—a bicycle-type device designed to give mobility to persons who have lost the use of their legs due to landmines, polio, or amputation. He also translates and prints Christian materials in his small print shop. Sandy coordinates workshops on HIV/AIDS in their New Life Training Center.
United Church of ChristMichael and Doreen McFarlane are currently serving at the Nanjing Jingling Union Theological Seminary of Nanjing, China. Michael is a Professor of Church Music and Doreen is a Professor of Biblical Studies. Though they are from Connecticut, both Michael and Doreen have Midwestern ties. Michael received his BA from Oberlin in Ohio and his MDiv from the Chicago Theological Seminary. Doreen received her MDiv from The Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, and her PhD from the Chicago School of Theology. They will be serving in China until July, 2010.
PresbyterianRodney and Sharon Babe are our Presbyterian missionaries in Haiti. Rodney is an ex-dairy farmer from Pennsylvania and brings his expertise in agriculture to a severely poverty stricken country. His focus is reforestation as an economic crop and the promotion of solar energy.
American BaptistOriginally from Kalamazoo, Richard and Anita Guiterrez are our Baptist missionaries in Durban, South Africa. They focus on training South Africans to provide basic community health care, including care to persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
