The Outreach Ministry of Peoples Church is committed to responding to the needs of people not only in our community, but also in the nation and throughout the world.
One major responsibility of the Outreach program is that of making decisions about the distribution of the church budgeted funds for Outreach.
Part of this money is used to help support four denominational missionaries and special projects such as scholarships and family camps sponsored by each of our four denominations. Outreach funds also support the Mission Trips of Campus Ministry and the Youth Program.
In addition, Outreach makes contributions to Habitat for Humanity, the Heifer Project, and several local agencies.
As part of a commitment to addressing international needs, in 2007, Peoples Church established a Village Bank in Malawi to provide low interest micro-loans to women in business. In 2009, a second bank was established in Haiti.
With a focus on the issue of hunger, Peoples Church is one of three local sites for a Fresh Food Bank, providing produce, dairy and meat to area families who struggle with food security.
We have also established an ongoing collection site for non-perishable foods for the Lansing Area AIDS Network Food Pantry.
In addition, Peoples Church is proud to serve only Fair Trade coffee in support of a just payment and better life for coffee farmers.
In the community, Peoples Church Outreach involves our congregation through monthly donation opportunities to projects such as the Personal Needs Closet, the Teddy Bear Ministry, children’s back-to-school donations, and a Coat Drive.
Food Basket deliveries are sponsored three times each year with the assistance of many volunteers from the congregation.
Annual events include participation in the CROP Walk, the AIDS Walk, the Festival of the Giving Trees at Christmas and remembering Church World Service and One Great Hour of Sharing through special offerings.
